The San Jose School of Highland Dancing was founded in the 1960's by Norine Harmon and continues to promote the Scottish Highland Dance Tradition in the San Francisco Bay Area.

From its origins in the highlands of Scotland as a ritual dance form performed to ensure victory in battle (and once performed only by men), Highland Dancing has evolved into a competitive and technical dance form requiring technique, stamina, and strength, and is recognized as a sport by the Sport Council of Scotland.

The school's dancers of all ages compete at Scottish Highland Games at the local, regional and national levels.

The dancers also enjoy performing at festivals, parties, parades and demonstrations.
