Board Report

1. Transitions:

a. A big thank you to Alisa for serving as our Treasurer for many years. And an additional thank you to Julee for picking up the treasurer duties.

b. We have updated our bank account with the new officers and removed some decades old names, it is now properly registered as a non-profit. We updated PayPal (as much as is possible) without starting over to reflect new officers 2. DVD sales are down from previous years, with 4 sales so far, vs. an annual average of ~20 to 25in previous years 3. 500th Performance. Red Thistle will dance its 500th documented performance with the next performance. This is a history that dates back to 1974 and the full history on the website.(Thank you Deborah for establishing the memory books.) A celebration and new dance (and music?) are in order. Stay tuned. 4. Red Thistle is in need of new members (see below) 5. Red Thistle will need to find a new temporary dance studio while Cubberley is remodeled. 6. A special thank you to Michael and Calli for sharing their beautiful house and hosting this year’s picnic and business meeting.

Artistic Director’s Report

Many thanks to all who have helped and continue to help me out in my Artistic Director’s role and in support of Red Thistle throughout the year! It takes many people to handle all the work involved in running Red Thistle.

Major News Items: 1. In 2019 RT has had 4 performances so far. Up to 3 more may be scheduled before the end of the year. We are scheduled to perform at the Turlock Games on October 19th . We are getting paid for this event. We are working with Filoli to schedule a performance date. The current proposed date is Saturday, November 23rd , but the date is yet to be confirmed.

We are working with the Dickens Faire to schedule a performance date – likely in December.

2. RT completed a second videotaping session of RSCDS dances this year for the RSCDS Archive.Fred has selected the video tracks to be downloaded to the Archive. Chris Figge is finalizing details of the video footage before downloading is completed. 3. We continue to need full support from everyone to attend rehearsals and sign up for performances! Please stay up to date with the sign-up sheets on the website.

4. There is a definite need to recruit new dancers into RT! Fred is willing to include less-experienced dancers in class to train them up to performance-team level. Assistance and cooperation from current RT dancers is needed to help train less-experienced dancers. Please contact Fred before reaching out to invite someone! And simply inviting someone to dance withRT does not mean they are auditioning or will eventually be part of the performance group! We need to find interested dancers who can train to be performance-team dancers so our group can continue!

5. Cubberley announced earlier this year that it will be closing the current facility to build something new in its place. We could be evicted from our dance space as early as next March. We need to look for a new hall to meet in the event Cubberley closes. At Cubberley we are paying $39 / hour for 3 hours per week. The hall is 36 x 44 feet (1584square feet). We need a similar-sized room with bathroom facilities and parking. Fred is open to finding a hall on the southeast side of the Bay – Union City, Fremont, Milpitas area – if something suitable is available. We should strive to stay on Thursday nights.

A google sheet has been created to list potential locations. Please communicate your ideas for possible locations to Fred and Kevin so they may be added to the sheet and researched. Thanks again for your support and faithfulness to Red Thistle!

Fred
